 The Farmer's Wisdom

In the old days, a king ruled over a country and he took great care of his subjects. One day while passing through the village he saw a farmer working. He asked the farmer, "How much do you earn from this field?" The farmer replied, "I earn four annas." How do you make ends meet? So the farmer replied. I lend one coming, I put one coming in the well, I take one coming down the loan. And I spend one anna on myself and my wife. The king asked in astonishment, "What does it mean to lend and pay and to put in the well?" The farmer wisely replies, "I spend one anna on my parents, I lend one anna on my children."

And putting it in the well means spending in the way of Allah. The king was very pleased with the farmer's wisdom. And he said to the farmer, "Don't tell anyone the secret until you see my face a hundred times."The next day the king mentions this to all the ministers in his palace and asks them this question. No one answers but the king's minister takes a day's respite and walks towards the same village. When the minister asks the farmer the answer, the farmer tells him about the king's condition. So the farmer says to that minister.

"Give me a hundred nobles, I will tell you the whole story." The minister answers that question before the king the next day. The farmer said, "I saw your face on a hundred nobles and told that to the minister." All the ministers sitting in the palace were stunned by the wisdom of the farmer. The king, seeing the farmer's wisdom, appointed the farmer as his minister and began to make all decisions and consultations with him.

کسان کی حکمت

پرانے زمانے میں ایک بادشاہ کسی ملک پر حکومت کرتا تھا اور وہ اپنی رعایا کا بہت خیال رکھتا تھا۔ ایک دن گاؤں سے گزرتے ہوئے اس نے ایک کسان کو کام کرتے دیکھا۔ اس نے کسان سے پوچھا کہ تم اس کھیت سے کتنا کماتے ہو؟ کسان نے جواب دیا میں چار آنہ کماتا ہوں۔ آپ کس طرح اختتام کو پورا کرتے ہیں؟ تو کسان نے جواب دیا۔ میں ایک آنے والے کو ادھار دیتا ہوں، ایک آنے والے کو کنویں میں ڈالتا ہوں، میں ایک آنے والے کو قرض اتارتا ہوں۔ اور میں اپنے اور اپنی بیوی پر ایک آنا خرچ کرتا ہوں۔ بادشاہ نے حیرت سے پوچھا کہ قرض دینے اور ادا کرنے اور کنویں میں ڈالنے کا کیا مطلب ہے؟ کسان دانشمندی سے جواب دیتا ہے، "میں ایک آنا اپنے والدین پر خرچ کرتا ہوں، ایک آنا اپنے بچوں پر ادھار دیتا ہوں۔"

اور کنویں میں ڈالنے کا مطلب اللہ کی راہ میں خرچ کرنا ہے۔ بادشاہ کسان کی عقلمندی سے بہت خوش ہوا۔ اور اس نے کسان سے کہا کہ جب تک میرا چہرہ سو بار نہ دیکھ لو کسی کو راز نہ بتانا۔ اگلے دن بادشاہ نے اپنے محل میں تمام وزیروں سے اس کا ذکر کیا اور ان سے یہ سوال کیا۔ کوئی جواب نہیں دیتا لیکن بادشاہ کا وزیر ایک دن کی مہلت لے کر اسی گاؤں کی طرف چل پڑا۔

جب وزیر نے کسان سے جواب پوچھا تو کسان اسے بادشاہ کا حال بتاتا ہے۔ تو کسان اس وزیر سے کہتا ہے۔ ’’مجھے سو رئیس دو، میں تمہیں ساری کہانی سناؤں گا۔‘‘ وزیر اگلے دن بادشاہ کے سامنے اس سوال کا جواب دیتا ہے۔ کسان نے کہا کہ میں نےآپ کا چہرہ سو رئیسوں پر دیکھا اور وزیر کو بتایا۔ کسان کی عقلمندی دیکھ کر محل میں بیٹھے تمام وزراء دنگ رہ گئے۔ بادشاہ نے کسان کی عقلمندی دیکھ کر کسان کو اپنا وزیر مقرر کیا اور اس سے تمام فیصلے اور مشاورت کرنے لگا۔
